The historical context
Begin with the available identification: game, date or season, quarter, score and the clip’s location in the source. Record which of those details are confirmed and which are absent. An official archive can help with discovery, but the identity of an individual clip still needs checking before it becomes evidence in a historical argument.
A clearer way to read the evidence
Describe the visible action separately from your interpretation. Include limitations such as a cut, narrow camera angle or missing lead-in. A useful viewing note allows another person to locate the same material and understand what you relied on. It does not need to explain every assignment to make a careful contribution to the discussion.
Keep in your notes
- Identify the clip and source.
- Describe cuts and camera limits.
- Separate action from interpretation.
